“I have always been interested in trains and NSWGR at that. I recall changing trains at Albury when I was very young. In the early to mid-60s I visited relatives in Brisbane, travelling by train. All those steam locomotives, when they were long gone in Victoria
In the 70s we built a house in Doncaster and put a simple layout up, initially under the house, then in a downstairs room. It was all packed up and put away when a young visitor smashed a scratch built carriage I had just built.
35 years later we purchased a place at Drysdale with a very large shed and the thought of another layout developed. I had an area of 6m x 5m available. What was I going to build? I noticed an advertisement in AMRM about a track planning service. I rang Graeme and we had a chat about available space and the sort of things I envisaged in a layout. Graeme gave me a price indication and I agreed to go ahead.
A few weeks later, after a few conversations, Graeme had completed the design, early in 2017. With lots of travel in 2017, I didn’t start till early 2018 – very exciting. I have now completed all the formwork and am about to start laying track. Graeme is ever ready to provide advice and suggestions and responds quickly to questions. I have an excellent design for a layout and would not have come up with anything like it myself.”
